Volunteers from the Heritage Boatworks program have been preparing to display an authentic replica of the Florida Skipjack, a traditional fishing craft initially built on the St. Johns River in New Berlin outside of Jacksonville between 1875 and 1880.

The vessel will go on permanent display at the Museum and acknowledge all boatbuilders, past and present, who bring wood and sailcloth together to create boats of unsurpassed quality and beauty. These volunteers are true artisans in every sense of the word. Stay tuned as we update the Skipjack’s progression throughout the coming months!
