#RodeoHistory: The very first Rodeo Parade came along with the first Rodeo in 1946. The first parade consisted of a cowboy band in a wagon, the Cloverdale Volunteer Firefighters, and local cowboys and cowgirls on their horses making their way through town to the fairgrounds. 

By 1950, the parade was a well populated community event. The viewers all dressed in their best western digs and local shops put up false storefronts to create a western atmosphere for the parade. This was the same year that the first parade float joined the spectacle among the dozens of local horsemen and women. 

In 1957 the parade was broadcasted on CBC for the first time, and by 1960 the Rodeo Parade became the largest event of its kind in the City of Surrey; though the western theme was no longer expected of the spectators and was now optional.
 
Todays Parades are made up of floats from local businesses, dance performances, classic cars, marching bands, horses, drill teams, and clowns. Several categories compete for best showing each year.
