When Kathy Diehl learned that her genetic fatty liver condition had worsened and she needed a transplant, she assumed she'd be placed on a waiting list for a deceased organ donor. But her hepatologist informed her of another option: a living donor.

"When I found out there was a chance my mom wouldn't have to wait for her card to be drawn, there was no question," says Kathy's youngest daughter, Sarah. "I knew right away that I would find out if I could be my mom's liver donor for a living donor transplant." Sarah was a perfect match.
