When nurse Debra Brian-Taft was asked about her critical care surge team at PrincetonHealth, she said: 

“In response to the overwhelming amount of critical care patients from COVID-19, our unit was opened in the early morning hours of March 30. Although this staff is trained in critical care for post-op patients, the level of care needed for this population of patients is unprecedented. I never for a minute doubted that this staff could provide the care these patients desperately needed."

"What I didn’t anticipate was how they go above and beyond every single day, never wavering and never backing down. Providing the best care for these patients always remained their top priority. Not once did anyone ever not do anything I asked of them, from changing all their schedules from rotating 12 hour shifts, to taking any assignment given to them, working extra hours and functioning in a difficult environment."

"In my 40-year career here at this hospital, I have never been more proud to be part of a team of nurses that constantly put patients and their families before themselves. This PACU staff demonstrates selflessness, compassion, professionalism, empathy, caring and flexibility. They are the finest examples of what it means to be a Penn Medicine Nurse.”
