Where are They Now? Alumni Spotlight!!!
This month’s Panther alumni shoutout goes to Shayla Diaz ’10. This former women’s basketball player, coach and PC staffer embodies athletics and art—two passions in Diaz’s life that came together in a beautiful way. In 2014, Diaz began her journey as a content creator on the basketball courts. Eight years later and #ShayzDayz is still making waves. Last month, Slam and Gatorade made Diaz its SLAM X Gatorade feature (video). 

Here’s what Diaz had to say on it…

“There weren't many people out covering NYC basketball, especiallyy streetball, at the time [2014] and def. not at the extent I was. I combined my passions for basketball & the arts in a way that fit me, and just took it from there. I didn't and still don't follow any blueprint which is why it can be difficult for me to describe Shayz Dayz at times, for people to really understand what's going on, or even figure out some future plans. That type of complication comes with creating my own lane. I get it & accept it because I know things will pay off. Even with the people/companies/brands who don't understand me, Shayz Dayz, or my value there's enough strong support from those who DO. That is what contributed to how I made it to this point... I mean I have a whole SLAM X Gatorade feature and it's not from playing basketball... lol, like whaT?? I'm BIG grateful and, for sure, proud of myself.
 To make it to this point of my journey it took a lot of time, effort, work, dedication, patienceee, belief in myself(heavy on this), and a lott moree. Outside of what I mentioned in the video about my "fueling tomorrow," what I just listed is how I fueled and continue to fuel MY tomorrow. I have a long way to go and more Ws(no matter the size) to welcome and appreciate... I'm sending positive and great "fueling" energy to those of you out there trying to get right for your tomorrow. You got it!✨💪🏽
