Hassein Rife transferred to Iowa State because of the @mshopames. Only a handful of universities across the country have venues comparable to the Maintenance Shop, where ISU students keep the ever-evolving landscape of popular music alive. Rife said he was inspired to apply for the sound tech position after seeing one of his favorite bands, Tiny Moving Parts, perform at the M-Shop in 2017. Rife’s audio engineering talent quickly promoted him to lead sound tech during his time at Iowa State. His tenure taught him that live sound production could be a profession. Now an electrical engineering graduate, he works for Pinnacle Recording and Productions, an Ankeny based audio engineering company.

“I wanted to be at every show, whether I was working or not. You never know what night is going to be a really special experience,” he said.

And you never know where your time spent at the Memorial Union is going to take you! Thank you, Hassein. We enjoyed being part of your story and we know you will continue to do great things.
