In 2009, Dr. Nancy Matus, a retired physician, and Bernard Matus, a retired educator, moved to Leonardtown, Maryland to be closer to their daughter. The couple had been fortunate over the course of their lives and were looking for ways to express their gratitude. Their combined interests in medicine and education led them to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, where they learned about a scholarship program the hospital had, which they decided to support.
