In honor of Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month, we want everyone in the community to know that your ordinary is extraordinary. We also want to recognize our team of hardworking nurses, wound care specialists, and physical and occupational therapists who help patients deal with the effects of limb loss and teach them how to tackle daily activities of life. Here is what Occupational Therapist Megan Stone (pictured below) has to say about our Inpatient Rehabilitation program at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital:

"Having an amputation causes significant changes and challenges for how individuals engage in daily activities.  This can include activities that are regularly performed including bathing, grooming, and dressing as well as activities that are individually meaningful.  Our Inpatient Rehabilitation Occupational Therapy team is motivated to educate and show patients with limb loss that engaging in these valued occupations is still very much possible. 

"We provide training in the use of durable medical equipment and adaptive devices to optimize engagement in activities of daily living.  Additionally, we educate patients with limb loss on skin care and desensitization, peer mentorship opportunities, engagement in community leisure, body image and intimacy, and how to decrease risks for further amputation.  As an Occupational Therapist on the Limb Loss Team, I am driven to help patients with limb loss achieve their goals and continue living a meaningful life."
