May 2015 // The Adventure to Omaha // chad_dennis_photo and I hadn’t spoken in quite a while when he called me up and gave me 48 hours notice to jumping in the truck for a road trip from Jacksonville to his hometown of Omaha for a job. He said he needed a photo assistant but I’m pretty sure he just paid me to keep him company. ( I slept 80% of the drive so I’m sure he wanted a refund. )

When we got to Omaha- he immediately made me get out of the truck, take my shoes off, and stand in the grass. He said it’s the best grass in the world. It really was the best grass in the world and it was in his grandmother’s yard who had the best cookies in the world.

The job took barely a full day so Chad gave me an in-depth tour of surprisingly artistic Omaha including the henry_doorly_zoo where we met with a friend of his who’s office has a giant window facing the giraffe exhibit. ( #goals ) Who knew the best zoo ever built is in Omaha and has an aquarium in the center?

On the 19 hour drive home- I was giving Chad a review of his online dating profile ( he’s off the market now ) when it sounded like a shotgun blast hit the truck. We realized we had somehow not blown- but EXPLODED a tire. It was 3am, stupid cold, and rage raining. Chad spent an hour destroying his white t-shirt underneath the truck laying in mud water trying to get the spare with me being super helpful with my shaky flashlight hands trying to read a digital manual on my phone that didn’t have signal. Chad successfully reached the spare to discover it was flat or damaged - I can’t remember but I yelled a lot - and we had to call for help. We were in the middle of literally nowhere Missouri- soaking wet- with a 3-hour rescue timeframe. We spent the night trying to sleep against the steering wheel and dashboard while laughing about Chad smelling like Missouri’s asshole.

I will always say yes when Chad calls.
