Behind The Scenes // thegreyareafilm // In response to all of the supportive reach outs I received in reaction to our post about the bullying scene, I feel that it is important for me to note that my life has drastically changed from what it was then, to what it is now. 
Although the intense sadness during this time period was very real and it was the deepest loneliness that I have ever known, I now have a life that is filled with more love and support than I ever imagined possible for me. 
Going back in time to recreate these scenes was in fact quite emotionally difficult. However, the hundreds of people who came together to make the film possible combined with the family and friends in my life who have sent me many forms of support through this process have consistently been a reminder to me that feeling that alone in the world is over for me. I am more grateful than I can express every day for that. 
The harsh, extremely important reality though is that right now there are many young people going to school every single day feeling like I did. They go to a place every single day where they feel small, terrified, irrelevant, and like no one is on their side. They do not have a context for how big the world is yet. They only know that the world they live in is a nightmare they can't wake up from. That is what being bullied and having no one come to help feels like. Many of the youths who experience this, do not make it far enough in life to realize its temporary because this actually kills them.
I ask all of you to pay attention to the youths in your life. Hear them. Believe them. Help them. In the very least, say anything to help them understand that the nightmare is temporary.
They can only be our future if we make sure they get there.
