## Caption

On this date in 1939: The famous ‘Einstein-Szilard letter’ was delivered to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Future #UChicago Metallurgical Laboratory scientist Leo Szilard helped Albert Einstein write the letter, warning him about the German nuclear program and urging the U.S. government to fund research on uranium. The letter was hand-delivered to the White House, and FDR recommended an advisory committee the following week. #nuclear75 #alberteinstein #leoszilard #einstein
