On July 26- right in the middle of my training for @chimarathon and @nycmarathon- I went to the doctor only to have my worst fear confirmed- I had cancer. 
For over 3 years, I had a Synovial Sarcoma tumor growing in my left hamstring. It was a small bump that sent a shock through my leg every time I sat down, but one that I became numb to. After consulting a family medicine doctor and being told “it ~might~ be a muscle strain”, which I knew was not the case, I tried not to think much of it, and I kept on running. That was until May of this year, when I was laying in bed and a shock went through both legs, from my hips to my toes, paralyzing me for nearly a minute.
I got lucky- the cancer did not spread. I did not need to have chemotherapy or radiation. I did not lose my hair, a limb, or my life, but some people are not as lucky as I was. So now, every run I make is for those who fought their battles, some who won, and some who got to heaven a little earlier than they should have- these medals are for you.
Running two marathons in 28 days- @wmmajors at that- was not an easy feat, especially for someone running with minimal training and a few interruptions. These were not my best races, but they were my most memorable. Thank you, Chicago and New York, and thank you to all my friends and family supporting me throughout this journey. 
Please, if something doesn’t seem right, go to the doctors asap. I got lucky, but not everyone does.
