Beautiful yellow Aspen leaves everywhere you look and an alpine lake at the top… What’s not to love? There’s something about hiking and chocolate that just go together so I packed a Protein Decadance Dark Chocolate + Almond Gomacro bar to enjoy at the lake. gomacro has been an adventure staple of mine for years (including a daily bar *or three* on my PCT thru-hike). American Lake (near Aspen, CO)
Intermediate Level Hike
Distance: Roughly 7 miles (Out and Back)
Vertical Gain: Roughly 2,200ft 

Some helpful tips:
-This hike can get VERY busy during peak summer and parking can be a challenge. That being said, weekdays in the fall are often fairly quiet which is why I love this hike this time of year!
-This trail is dog-friendly! Dogs must be on a leash
-The bulk of the vertical gain is at the beginning of the hike. Expect to get moving and grooving right away. For me, it’s the downhill that gets me more than the up so I am always really grateful to have my hiking poles for the return trip to the car.
