For the last 8 years I’ve ridden a hand-me-down mountain bike that I acquired from an ex-boyfriend... It was a youth boy bike from the early 2000s and he had used it as a teenager and then grown out of it.

It might be stretch to even say that I “rode” it because the truth is I only actually took it on dirt a handful of times... rock climbing was more my MO.

Last spring backcountry invited me on a fun adventure in Utah which included a mountain bike adventure on some rad 2020 mountain bikes and I was blown away by how much the technology has shifted in the last 20 years. I knew then and there I’d need to upgrade my bike one day soon.

As most of you know my original plan was to be hiking the PCT this summer but when that plan folded in on itself with COVID I started thinking about how I’d spend this summer instead. Naturally, I found myself dreaming about that new mountain bike...

I’m used to reading tech specs of whatever I’m buying and using them to make an informed choice, but reading the info on the bikes was like reading a whole new language! I was so grateful for the gearheads at backcountry because they helped me pick out exactly what I needed.

I’m obsessed with my new Juliana Roubion so far. Loving how I’m feeling stronger after each climb and less scared after each descent! It’s a whole new sport for me and I’m loving being a beginner again!
