Ever since I fell in love with the outdoors in college I've always been more into rock climbing than hiking. That's part of the reason why before last week I had only hiked 2 of 53 Colorado 14ers. This summer, however, as I entertain the idea of hiking the PCT next year, I've decided to put some miles/elevation gain under my feet.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last week my dog, my boyfriend photograferg, and I opted to take on a four 14er loop. Even though you snag four different summits with this loop it's actually easier than some single 14ers so it was a good early season mission. Our app recorded us taking in about 3300ft elevation gain in total and about 7 miles. This photo was from the summit of Mt. Democrat, which happened to be my favorite of the four!

When it comes to gear it's all about layering. The temperature can range dramatically at such high elevations and its almost always insanely windy at the top! Before I headed out on this adventure I stocked up on some essentials from backcountry! My favorite layer by far was the backcountry Canyonlands lightweight wind jacket! It's super light and packs down really small leaving lots of room in my daypack for other layers and snacks.
