Restoring the forests of Madagascar’s Menabe Antimena is vital to supporting both local communities and protecting threatened species. Since 2022, rewild has been working with fanamby_madagascar to reforest this Key Biodiversity Area. With generous donor support, Association Fanamby has been able to vastly exceed their initial goal of planting 80,000 native trees over two years—and instead planted an astounding 219,250 trees between 2022 and 2024.

Efforts to restore and protect this forest not only help reduce impacts of drought on the region and build resilience to future climate threats, but also stimulate the local economy through sustainable income generation and community development.

Menabe Antimena is home to many species that live nowhere else on Earth, including eight lemur species. This forest is most notably the only home that remains for the Critically Endangered Madame Berthe’s Mouse Lemur—considered one of the world’s top 25 most endangered primates.

Re:wild partner Fanamby is now poised to build upon this momentum and significantly expand this community-led reforestation program. With further donor support, we aim to plant 500,000 additional native trees over the next two years, continuing to help Menabe’s people and biodiversity thrive.

Made possible with generous support from noahshachtman, beeple_crap, and leonardodicaprio. #WorldEnvironmentDay #GenerationRestoration
