Next fall, graduate Keegan Sarwate will be off to McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Sarwate said he always knew he always knew he wanted to go to school up north, and the idea of going abroad was very exciting.

“I’m from Chicago originally, and I kind of knew I wanted to go to school more up north,” Sarwate said. “The idea of basically doing my whole college as a study abroad, and getting to experience a whole new country and a whole new culture, it was completely different than what I knew.”

Sarwate said he applied to several schools in Canada, but ultimately, fell in love with McGill and Montreal.

“I knew I wanted to apply to a college in Canada,” Sarwate said. “I applied to two actually. McGill just when we visited it, I loved it. I love the city.”

While he is eagerly looking ahead, Sarwate also said he is sad for what he is leaving behind at McCallum.

For one thing, he will miss being a part of the Ballet Folklorico club after he graduates.

“It was so much fun to go to all these elementary schools and do this dance,” Sarwate said. “I’m never going to forget those people.”

Sarwate also said he will miss the Banned Book Club that he founded and hopes it will continue on at McCallum.

“It’s really cool to have a legacy on the school, and it was something that I was really passionate about,” Sarwate said. “I hope it keeps going once I’m gone.”

Looking forward, however, Sarwate said he is very excited for the many new adventures that await him in college. He feels certain that McGill is the perfect fit for those new chapters to unfold.

“For me, college is about getting to try new experiences, and that was something that was really important to me when I was choosing [a college],” Sarwate said. “When we visited [McGill], I could just see myself being happy there.”
