Graduate Madi Briggs will be attending Texas Tech University with a major in agriculture communication. For Briggs, a big appeal of the school was its location and the experience that would come with it.

“After visiting the campus a few times, I fell in love with the environment,” Briggs said. “Lubbock is a small town, and everything is so close together.”

Wishing to become a realtor after college, Briggs decided that Texas Tech afforded her a specialized program for the path she wants to pursue after college.

“I chose agriculture communications because I’ve always been interested in ranching and natural resources,” Briggs said. “I thought communications would be a great thing to major in because I want to be a realtor with land/property.”

Heading for college and leaving the place she grew up is both one of the hardest parts for Briggs as well as the most exciting.

“I like the distance from home,” Briggs said. “It’s not too far to where I can drive home on the weekends, but it’s also not too close.”

Briggs admitted she will miss the McCallum experience when she attends college.

“I will miss my friends, but mostly my soccer team and coach,” Briggs said. “I had the best season with them, and they made a positive impact on my senior year.”

Briggs will miss these aspects of McCallum, but she is also enthusiastically looking forward to the changes that come with her college experience.

“I am most looking forward to being in a new community and meeting new people,” Briggs said. “I am also excited about having more freedom with my classes. I think it’ll be great for learning how to be more independent.”
