We’re excited to announce the addition of our new Dance Studies major!  CMU Dance Program Coordinator, Heather Trommer-Beardslee, says, “This is the first Dance Studies major in Michigan.  It will prepare students for a wide variety of professional careers and educational opportunities in dance as performers, educators, administrators, choreographers, scholars, production technicians, and more.” Students will experience a unique selection of coursework, mentoring from experienced dance professors, many enriching performance opportunities, and exposure to international and national guest artists.

Dance Studies expands the intellectual framework of dance education outside of the traditional dance studio. While dance technique courses will be a significant portion of the required course work, critical thinking, writing, and rigorous scholarly exploration will partner with the physical training to deepen the students’ understanding of dance in a global context.
