I am graduating this May after a very long and hard year. MSU has also been a safe haven for me, and since my freshman year I have taken advantage of all it has to offer with ease, but this year has been different. I have struggled with severe mental illness and some of my lowest points this school year; I regularly doubted whether I would make it through the year. I felt empty and alone despite amazing friends and support systems. At times, it truly seemed impossible, and I felt guilty and even angry at how I was feeling. I still struggle with these feelings currently. But I’m taking some steps towards getting to where I want to be in life. That’s the thing about progress— it isn’t linear. It’s frustrating and challenging; it can be hard to see it sometimes, and many times it’s an uphill battle you’re not adequately armed for. It’s hard to love yourself through it and accept the love others give you, and it’s hard to keep going. All I know is, in the end, even if I am taking two steps forward and one step back, I’m still moving forward. - I’ve been involved in other aspects of the student organization life on campus, but the OSJD, specifically the LGBTQ Center, has been my home since freshman year and my found family ever since.
- Fun Fact: I’m pursuing my master’s degree at MSU in Counseling, with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health. I start Fall 2019!
