Baseball Hall of Famer therealgeorgebrett5 first called up to the major leagues on Aug. 2, 1973. Fifty years later, he talked candidly with KC Star columnist Vahe Gregorian about his rocky beginnings as a Royal, the milestones and the memories.

Brett was a vital part of making KC the place to be for baseball from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, in particular. In those first 20 years here, he became the first player in MLB history to win batting titles in three different decades.
