In the past five months, two incidents of sexual battery were reported during concerts at Berkeley’s 924 Gilman venue, totaling to seven known victims and prompting a number of changes to existing concert security.

CFO and Bookkeeper Alex Botkin, who has played in bands at Gilman since 2012, said both assaults occurred at shows with smaller attendances.

As of April, Gilman implemented changes to their security. The security staff, half of which used to be volunteer-based, now are all 18+ and hold state-issued guard cards. All security staff are now trained in first-aid.

According to Botkin, Gilman has also increased the number of security cameras in the live room and added one to the side door on the Eighth Street Entrance, as camera footage assisted police in identifying the two suspects.
