Congratulations, Avajane!

Avajane Lei is our resident busy bee! Joining in her sophomore year, Ava quickly made a mark on the team through her energetic nature and always being there to lend a helping hand. As our only senior from Walls, Ava led all of the SWW kids, always there to encourage us for erg tests and give us much-needed advice. As a rower, Ava was an integral part of the Novice 8, and 4V/5V and even tried her hand at coxing! 

The most impressive part of Avajane’s rowing career was her ability to commit to countless other activities and still be a strong member of the crew team. Ava managed to dual enroll at GW her last two years of high school, balancing being an academic weapon and a stellar rower. At the same time she worked part-time and this year she even performed as Maureen in the School Without Walls production of Rent (who knew she had such singing chops!?)

Next year, Ava will be attending Grinnell College to study anthropology and peace & conflict studies! We’re so proud of the strong, confident, and fun person that Ava has become, and we’ll never forget her mooing on stage!
