Graduate Olivia Hexsel will be attending St. Edwards University this fall with an undecided major and plans to go into communications.

For Hexsel, a career in communications is something she has been interested in pursuing, as she has found a passion for collaboration and leadership during her time at Mac.

“I want to go into communications because I think I have good leadership skills and I want to pursue a career in something where I can put them to use,” Hexsel said. “I really like being a leader and being involved at McCallum has shown me that.”

From serving as student body president, as a Blue Brigade social officer, a Key Club officer, a dance major and more, Hexsel feels that her experiences represent what she wants to pursue in the future.

“McCallum has provided me with multiple opportunities where I can learn from my mistakes but also grow from them,” she said. “The staff and student community here have really provided me with the support that I need to feel ready to move on to the next chapter of my life.”

When deciding on St. Edwards, Hexsel found that she liked the structure of the school’s academics and was able to envision herself succeeding in her future there.

“I chose St. Edwards because they provide a good learning system and have lots of opportunities for me to shine,” she said. “I also thought it was really welcoming and everyone was so friendly.”

Hexsel was also drawn to the school for its views.

“I’m excited to stay in Austin because I really love it here,” Hexsel said. “I loved the campus when I visited. It overlooks the skyline of Austin and I thought it was really pretty.”

After closing an important chapter in her life, Hexsel is optimistic to see what she will do next.

“I’m super excited to see what is in this new chapter of my life and I am ready to see the new opportunities I will have in college,” she said.
