Dear Church —

Last night I hung out a bit near the church and posted this observation (Image with “Pretty sure I’m twice as old as most everyone at @MantraCoffee right now”) in my Instagram Story while doing some work at Mantra Coffeehouse on San Gabriel. As I sat there, surrounded by young adults from various ethnic backgrounds, life stages, and experiences, it became even more real to me the importance of building up the life of FCUPC.

As FCUPC turns its face towards a future of being multicultural, reconnecting to the community, and sharing a place where people can experience a safe place of belonging where they may grow in their Christian faith, taking time to see who is around is essential.

Knowing who makes up the community will help to determine the best ways to reconnect with shared interests and passions. Whoever is called as your next pastor will, no doubt, connect with local leaders and community organizations, but I would also encourage you to take some time to walk the area, notice who else is around, note what has remained, and reflect on what has changed. Doing this will help us to see the area not simply as a means to our own growth but as a community with which we can grow together.

Lastly, remember to mark your calendars for Holy Week: Maundy Thursday (04.06/6:30pm meal, 7:00pm service), Good Friday (04.07/7:00pm), and Easter Sunday (04.09/10:30am in the Park). Stay tuned for more details.
