#25WordAdventPrayers

May God judge your people in righteousness, your afflicted ones with justice. — Psalm 72:2 

Honor is one of those words that I never really use. I often joke with folks about bringing “honor” or “dishonor” upon your family, but really it’s a word that does not get used much these days.

Too often it seems as if honor is substituted for worship, lifting up people, professions, and patriotism to the point of idolatry. As I think more about “honor,” instead, I see it as a way to be and do as God hopes us to be and do in the world. Being honorable in the world means that we understand that we are to recognize that we are moving through God’s creation, not ours. Being honorable towards God’s creation means recognizing and embracing the created-ness that God has instilled in each of us.

During this Advent season, let us recapture what it means to be honorable, in the world and towards others, not to worship others as God, but to worship God in how we honor others.

God with us –
With hope, peace, love, and joy
let us honor one another in ways 
worthy of the hope, peace, love, and joy
that you offer us.
