With the weight of the Club Q shooting weighing on the spirits of so many as we enter the Advent season, this week's Weekly Word is offered as an acknowledgment of this weight and an encouragement to fulfill the cycle of breath, to both inhale and exhale — in the hopes of making space to know hope, peace, love, and joy more deeply.
 
EXHALE
we are holding our breath
our bodies clench
our hearts ache
our spirits constrict
our souls gasp

siblings, remember to exhale

how do we embody hope when our breath is held
awaiting the next assault on those who already suffer?
we may not know the way now
but siblings, we must remember to exhale.

how do we experience peace when our breath is held
awaiting the next act of violence and terror?
we may not know the way now
but siblings, we must remember to exhale.

how do we embrace joy when our breath is held
awaiting the next groans of an anguishing creation
we may not know the way now
but siblings, we must remember to exhale.

how do we express love when our breath is held
waiting for the next reminder of relationships estranged
we may not know the way now
but siblings, we must remember to exhale.

in time dear siblings we will know
but until then, let us breathe
