## Caption

A reflection and prayer inspired by Jeremiah 8:18.*

Too often the world just expects us to move on from heartache, to simply get over grief, or always put on a brave/happy faith. I know that there are times when the last thing that my path towards healing needs is to speed up and through painful spaces. Rather I need to sit still and let the pain, struggle, and grief wash over me; and then, and only then, will healing, relief, and even joy will come.

SORROW

The world wants me to be okay,
but my joy is gone

The world wants me to move on,
but grief is upon me

The world wants to avert its eyes from suffering,
but my heart is sick. 

Joy will return when it returns
until that time, God, grant me
the courage to weep uncontrollably
a willingness to let my tears flow
an openness to feel deeply
and the freedom to grieve.
