TDN's #BreedersCup40 Celebration continues today with ASHADO and ROUND POND 💝 Both winners of the GI breederscup Distaff, GI Kentucky Oaks winner Ashado (Saint Ballado) won the 2004 edition by 1 1/4 lengths, while 2005 GI Acorn S. winner Round Pond (Awesome Again) pulled away to win by 5 1/2 lengths in the 2006 edition of the Distaff.

Ashado would go on to pick up three more Grade I wins before retiring at the end of 2005 with a record of 21-12-4-3 (seven Grade I victories) with $3,931,440 in career earnings. Multiple Grade I winner Round Pond raced twice more after her Breeders' Cup victory, later retiring with a record of 13-7-2-3 and earnings totaling $1,998,700.

As luck would have it, the Distaff winners now reside together at Darley America’s Gainsborough division. Both were purchased by John Ferguson on behalf of Darley - Ashado for $9 million–then a world record–at the 2005 Keeneland November Sale and Round Pond for $5.75 million at Fasig-Tipton's fall sale in 2007.

Successful racehorses who have passed on their talents to their foals, both have been enjoying the good life as part of the Darley broodmare band. Ashado produced her final foal - a Bernardini colt - last year.
