After the emotional drain of the past months having to respond to anti-Asian violence, I'm now supposed to also produce content for #AAPIHeritageMonth?

We know you're tired, but just one more thing . . . on brand America, on brand.*

(And yes, I realize that I am producing content right now.)

Yes, there is much to celebrate about AAPI heritage and history, but let's just be careful that we don't get all performative, safe, and shallow — for when we do that we reinforce the presence white supremacy and strengthening of institutional racism. 

I hope what we share and learn will include, food, artistry, and other "cultural" contributions, but we must also be willing to acknowledge the complex stories, history of resistance, and ongoing anti-AAPI, racist attitudes taught and communicated throughout society.

*Oh, and don't expect the AAPIs do ALL the work.
