## Caption

The James Beard Award for Best Chef: Great Lakes went to Hajime Sato of Sozai in Clawson, Michigan. Sozai, who earned the honor tonight at Chicago's Lyrica Opera, is a sushi restaurant in suburban Detroit. 

"I've spent the majority of my life and my career trying to get to this point," Vinnie Cimino told us when his East Fourth Street restaurant earned Best New Restaurant of 2023. "It took me going through a pandemic and so much happening to figure out what I'm supposed to do to be at this point to having been able to open this restaurant. Ready to be able to take on the responsibility to build something of the magnitude. Ready to take on the responsibility for all the people we have here. We pride ourselves on hospitality. We pride ourselves in making fun and interesting food."
