Naira Ashraf, a young student, was stabbed in front of her university in broad daylight by a fellow student

Authorities have arrested the suspect, Mohamed Adel, who confessed to the crime, saying Ashraf had blocked him on social media and rejected his marriage proposal.

The Observatory of Crimes of Violence against Women in Egypt recorded more than 800 cases against women last year, nearly double compared with the previous year.
