You ready for some old school woodworking? Check out these pics from printmakersinn. They are in the process of dismantling a 300+ year old house, and moving it so it can be saved. Their page is fascinating! Here is the explanation for these particular photos:

Hey Y’all!  Today was an awesome learning experience.  So one of the gentleman helping us with the project was teaching us more about the tusk tenon joinery I have been talking about.  The summer beams in the Hall and Parlor used tusk tenoned joinery to attach the two beams into the end and chimney girts.  What’s such a cool find/discovery from today, is they are exactly the same as the Gedney House in Salem Mass.  The first pic is from Historic New England and the second is a great diagram from Abbott Lowell Cummings book “The Framed Houses of Massachusetts Bay, 1625-1725.” What is so fascinating is the Gedney house is confirmed to be circa 1665!  The summer beams in our house were dated circa 1692-1693 as some of you may know.  Photos 3-7 show the tenons and mortises in our house and if you compare them to Cummings diagram of the Gedney House joinery, they are almost identical.  Anyways, excuse my lengthy post, but it is a great teaching moment for us and maybe for y’all as well! 😊. The significance of this find is a big deal.
