Gracie’s Story 💙✨

"Gracie and her sister (who does not have Cerebellar Hypoplasia) came to me as kittens for fostering at about 5 weeks old. At the time, the shelter was unaware how much Gracie could do for herself.

In the beginning I’ll admit, I was completely overwhelmed and almost lost her if it wasn’t for someone stepping in to help. Very early on Gracie showed she was a fighter and wanted to live. Slowly, I learned how to take care of her and learned how to adapt things to be Gracie’s way. See, Gracie is a normal cat - she just does things different. Gracie has severe Cerebellar Hypoplaysia, better known as “wobblers syndrome”. In Gracie’s case, she cannot walk, stand or sit on her own. She “flip flops” to get around.

The time was coming close to Gracie being spayed and going up for adoption when I knew the shelter needed to assess her. After their assessment she was deemed unadoptable due to her condition. So she was signed over to me to spare her from being euthanized. The goal was always to find her the right home, but quickly she made herself at home, and even had 2 homes for a while! She was doubly loved!

I created Gracie’s Instagram and very soon was welcomed into the wobbly cat community where I first started to see cats with wheels and then we started to dream for Gracie.

At the age of 1 Gracie got her wheels. She took her first steps upright, and saw the world standing instead of on her side. Wheels changed Gracie’s life. Its therapy. It allows her to be nose to nose with other cats and work at those muscles in her legs she doesn’t use lying down. She explores in new ways and really got a new lease on life. She’s not speedy… yet… but wheels have given her a different kind of independence when she’s in them.

Gracie is the strongest girl I know, she has shown she is a fighter, a sweetheart and a true Cerebellar Hypoplasia warrior." 💕
