#HabitatUncoveR3D with Dawson Dunning (3bearsmedia), cinematographer on a groundbreaking new series for Apple TV called “EARTHSOUNDS,” produced by Offspring Films. These are what Dawson says are his favorite types of shoots where he can foremost be a naturalist and apply field knowledge gained from years of working with familiar subjects, and secondly apply advanced technologies to accomplish moving shots and moods. 

“I used a vehicle rigged Shotover M1 to film the elk rut and bugling bulls (my favorite sound in nature by far),” he says. “Another setup was working from a traditional hide while deploying a remotely controlled motion control rig to capture moving shots of a ruffed grouse male displaying on a log. This rig was a RED #GEMINI5K on a Kessler Cineshooter and motorized Cinevate slider paired with remote control functionality of Teradek RT and FoolControl app. I love meshing all the technologies to have full 3 axis motion and camera control, and make a vision and story come to life, revealing the unique ways animals use sound in the natural world. Working alongside sound guru Nick McMahan nicksmcmahan and field producer Tom Packer tspacker on both of these shoots, we were able to bring the amazing and complex communication of a couple of my favorite critters to the masses and hopefully inspire some people to spend more time just listening and being fully immersed in nature.”
