Graduate Ruby LaWare is a Chicago veteran. With a sister who just finished her freshman year at DePaul University, she’s visited the city many times. But when she’s back there next fall studying political science at Loyola University, she’ll feel it: the magic and promise the Windy City holds.

“I really liked the city of Chicago,” LaWare said. “I wanted to be in an urban environment for college … and I really wanted to go to school there.”

LaWare first discovered Loyola through her grandfather, who attended college there. But when visiting her older sister in September, LaWare and her family decided to stop by Loyola to check it out.

“I fell in love with the campus because it was so nice and right on Lake Michigan,” she said. “I really liked that it felt like a real college campus. It had a campus feel even though it was in the middle of a big city.”

LaWare was also drawn to Loyola because of its political science program. She was driven to choose this course of study due to a desire to go into nonprofit work.

“I just want to go into a profession where I can have a direct impact on people’s lives and where I can work with people,” LaWare said. “I think working at nonprofits would be a good way to do that.”
