Two decades have passed since Myron Piggie, a one-time crack cocaine dealer, became a figure of national notoriety for being convicted of paying elite high school basketball players to suit up for his summer Amateur Athletic Union team and going to prison.

But that was a long time ago. Collegiate athletes are now allowed to make money — in some cases a lot — off of their names, images and likenesses.

Today, Piggie still owes more than $250,00 in restitution to the universities he allegedly defrauded, and trying to pay that back has been hard on his family.

Star Opinion columnist Toriano Porter became one of the few journalists to interview Piggie, seeking to understand how Piggie feels about what he did and what he’s like now. Then there’s the question left hanging between them: “Do you think I’m a bad person?”
