I’ve been trying to capture this exact photo all week, but it didn’t give itself up easily.

On the east coast of Jersey, at the base of this 700 year old castle, these boats are left stranded on the beach by the falling tide. The ocean here drops an astonishing 40ft (12M), practically doubling the size of the island twice every day.

But it had been cloudy all week, terrible light for photography, however, there was one tiny break in the clouds over the Atlantic ocean headed for our island.

I tracked this gap via satellite for 5 hours, watching it shrink as it approached the island, hoping the gap would hold out long enough to gift that perfect light for a picture.

By the time the sun spot arrived over the castle it lasted about 3 minutes; but the tide was still too high to get out on the beach.  So I flew our new ANAFI drone out between the boats and luckily snapped this pic just in time before the clouds closed up and the light was gone again.
