Throughout Pride Month and the entire year, we recognize and celebrate the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Americans, both past and present, while preserving the rich histories of LGBTQ+ communities in national parks and neighborhoods across the nation.

Today, we're highlighting IndependenceNPS in #Philadelphia, a site deeply rooted in the city's longstanding tradition of protest and activism. From sit-ins at Dewey's, drawing attention to non-gender conforming discrimination, to Sisters, a lesbian bar on Chancellor Street, to Giovanni's Room, one of the country's first LGBTQ bookstores, Philadelphia has a rich and diverse LGBTQ+ history. These acts of resistance underscore the city's dedication to advocating for equal rights and inclusivity for all.
