Severe vascular disease prevented a painful wound on David’s foot from healing. Infection spread, and after two years of immobilizing procedures and casts elsewhere, the Baltimore handyman sought the expertise of our Chairman of Vascular Surgery at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, Dr. Stephen Stanziale, with one wish. “Take my foot off,” he said.

Knowing when to use new technologies, and when to revert to old, Dr. Stanziale performed an intricate variation on the gold standard approach, a vascular bypass, to save his foot. David said, “My foot was healing before I even left the hospital. No ifs, ands, or buts. He saved my foot.
