Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed, hallelujah!

“Stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then, following him, Simon Peter also came. He entered the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there. The wrapping that had been on his head was not lying with the linen cloths but was folded up in a separate place by itself.” John‬ ‭20:5-7‬ ‭

An often overlooked, seemingly simple, but very important, part of the resurrection story is the simple burial wraps and cloths. Jesus’ folding of His wraps is revealing of His nature when you see the deeper meaning. Resurrection wasn’t some sudden, intense, or crazy moment. It was a peaceful, aware, and Godly action. Jesus, after being resurrected, consciously took the time to tidy up and fold his clothes. This could also be a way to show anyone who came in that his body wasn’t taken in a hasty robbery.

Mary, still in shock, didn’t realize the symbolism of the folded wraps. But this lapse in comprehension led to a much more impactful and very Jesus fashion of revealing His resurrected self to her.

“Woman,” Jesus said to her, “why are you crying? Who is it that you’re seeking?” Supposing he was the gardener, she replied, “Sir, if you’ve carried him away, tell me where you’ve put him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” Turning around, she said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” which means “Teacher.” John‬ ‭20:15-16‬

This simple act just shows us God’s infinite patience, gentleness, and attention to detail. If you had just died and been resurrected, wouldn’t you want to immediately jump out and run to a large group of your best friends? Disregarding any cloths you had or maybe even people that had come to check on your tomb? I think that I would. But instead, Jesus folded His clothes and waited at His tomb for Mary and Peter before going to see the rest of His best friends. And to wait a little to reveal to Mary who he actually is? The self control, patience, peace, timeliness, and plan is inspiring.

Where is your patience?
