REVIEW: If you want to see a superstar unfolding before your eyes, turn your attention firmly towards Bambie Thug. There is something seriously stirring within the bewitching universe that they have concocted, and in opening the Apex Stage, a massive jump from their slot on the Dogtooth Stage last year, they have set about enrapturing a whole new set of souls. Stalking such a vast space like it belongs to them, their callous, cutthroat brand of ouija-pop feels unpredictable in the most uncompromising way. The caustic power of ‘Bye Boy’, the skin-crawling intent of ‘NECROMANCY’, the spellbinding grit of ‘Doomsday Blue’; every rip and tear is executed to precision with a malicious grin plastered across their lips throughout. Yet it’s when things slow down for a moment of vital reflection via a stunningly gripping cover of The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’ that the true potency of who Bambie is comes into focus. Behind the witch, there is someone who has hope for the world, and that everybody can exist within it in whatever way they want to. That is the sort of thing that forges legends, and Bambie is well on their way to becoming that.
