Unfortunately, there is no pro tip out there that can make working with them mess-free. Prepare yourself: if you work with sprinkles, they will get everywhere! But I think the mess is worth it. Have you ever see a cake decorated so that sprinkles cover the side of the entire cake? I think that look is SO cute, and I’m going to tell you how to create it! Once you frost your entire cake, get out a bowl that is larger than the size of your cake. Put the sprinkles you want to use into that big bowl. Then, hold the cake over the bowl with one hand. Use your other hand to scoop up a handful of sprinkles and press them onto the cake. Keep that cake over the bowl to capture the sprinkles that don’t stick! Start this process at the bottom of the cake and work your way to the top. Turn the cake slightly and repeat. Repeat this scoop and press process until you’ve completely covered the sides of your cake with sprinkles. If you’ve been holding the cake over the bowl, all of the fallen sprinkles will have been captured by the bowl.
