Assistant Professor Linda Chamorro, one of six 2021-22 fellows of The Landscape Architecture Foundation, shared her work as part of the foundation’s “Innovation and Leadership Symposium” that took place Washington, DC last night. The event is the culmination of the year-long LAF Fellowship for Innovation and Leadership, a unique program and $25,000 award that supports mid-career, senior-level, and emerging professionals as they develop and test new ideas that will drive the future of the landscape architecture discipline. This powerful event showcases leading-edge thinking in landscape architecture to address a breadth of current issues within and beyond the discipline. 

Professor Chamorro’s fellowship project, titled, Tierra Media Project: Making Space for Latine/x/a/o Voices in Search of New Definitions of Engagement with the Land, was developed in collaboration with nine designers with roots in Latin America. Reflecting on their relationship with each other and the land, the project is informed by their collective identities and experience. Reckoning with centuries of trauma, displacement, and erasure, they envision a platform for healing, community, representation, and joy. The work is an invitation to rekindle stories of resilience, inspiration, and connection to imagine new futures for the field of landscape architecture.

“Professor Chamorro is one of three faculty awardees nationwide,” Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design Ebru Ozer said. “This competitive national fellowship gave her the opportunity to further her research on Latinx communities and their relationship to land."
