Commencement Week. #FIUGrad Spotlight on Helen M. Acevedo Feliciano// A Broadcast Media major, Helen bleeds blue and gold! In her time at FIU, Helen was involved in Her Campus FIU before joining the South Florida Media Network (SFMN) in the Summer of 2020 where she’s had the opportunity to sharpen her storytelling skills and report on a wide range of stories -- the protests for Black Lives Matter, the liberation of Cuba, the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccines, the Miami-Dade Mayoral race, Bitcoin, and the Surfside Building collapse, to name a few. Helen also had the opportunity to take part in the School of Communication + Journalism (fiu_scj) Univision STEP Program for the Fall 2021 semester.

“This internship has taught me more than I could have ever expected, from producing graphics, creating animations, editing, directing a Livestream show, and managing a show.  I have received awards like the NAHJ (officialnahj) 2021 Voces de Periodismo award for audiovisual reporting, and the SPJ (spj_pics) Florida Pro Sunshine State Awards 2021 Best News Story. I couldn't have done it all without the incredible staff at SFMN, professors Charles Strouse and Stephen Kairalla as well as the amazing staff with STEP Univision, Professor Lilliam Martinez Bustos, and the Multimedia Team. I wouldn't have been able to do any of this if it weren't for all of the programs and phenomenal staff that #FIUCARTA has offered to me as a student. I am so happy to see what is to come for this brilliant school.” #RealTriumphs
