#G7 just ended in Hiroshima Japan. To our disappointment, they did not agree to phase out fossil fuel cars.⁣

Transportation accounts for 21% of total CO2 emissions. To keep the 1.5C goal within reach and prevent the worst climate disasters, we must phase out fossil fuel cars by 2030.⁣

Japan’s auto industry plays a key role. Big auto firms like Toyota Honda Nissan account for a total of 21% market share in 2022 worldwide. ⁣
⁣
Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association’s (JAMA) press conference at G7 advertised diverse vehicle options, but they significantly lacked in the ambition to go zero-emissions.⁣
⁣
Countries around the world are setting up dates to phase out fossil fuel cars and providing incentives for zero-emission vehicles, while improving cycling and public transport infrastructures. ⁣
⁣
As the #G7 chair nation who also owns one of the biggest auto industries in the world, Japan must catch up with the race to move beyond combustion engines, e-fuels, and hybrids.⁣
