ANIMALS AT NIGHT is Naomi Booth's first short story collection, shortlisted for the 2023 Edge Hill Prize.

Things often appear different at night. Nocturnal creatures seem more primal, driven by a purer instinct than their daylight counterparts. We've all caught glimpses of the unsettling glare in the eye of a fox, the split-second a deer freezes, the heartbeat it takes for dark shape to flash across the road.

These stories capture the unsettling landscape Naomi Booth's writing so expertly inhabits in the quiet moments of a woman feeding a baby in the dead of night; the discovery of a  jellyfish on a dark beach; the image of a dying hare at the side of a road you can't shake from your mind.
