Carole LaFavor was a Two-Spirit Ojibwa novelist and activist who lived and worked in
Minnesota. She was a member of the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS in the 1990s
and worked with organizations that supported Native American people with HIV/AIDS.
Published for the first time in the UK by Dead Ink, her crime novels are interwoven with
indigenous stories and drift between the perspectives of people and animals.

ALONG THE JOURNEY RIVER introduces us to Renee LaRoche, investigating when several
sacred artifacts go missing from the Minnesota Red Earth Reservation and then lead to the
murder of Jed Morriseau, the Tribal Chairman. She must track down those responsible as well
as navigate the strenuous relationship she’s beginning to build with Samantha, a white
Women’s Studies professor.

EVIL DEAD CENTRE takes place in the following year— an Ojibwa woman has been found dead,and
the coroner has ruled her death a suicide. But an ex-lover comes back into Renee’s life and
says foul play was involved, and Renee sets out to prove otherwise. Whilst carrying out a
welfare check on an Ojibwa boy in foster care, she falls into a world of deep trauma inflicted
upon the Ojibwa people by the foster care system.
