Gala is obsessed with The Get Happies, a band from the 60s who stopped making music
abruptly, and the eponymous album Summer Fun was never released. Gala is trans, lives in the
desert, works in a hostel, and writes letters she’ll never send to The Get Happies lead singer,
addressing the reader directly, so she can figure out what happened.

Jeanne Thornton’s prose is rich and evocative, brimming with gut-punching lines that make you
lower the book and leave you on the floor.
