#Houston is home to nearly 300,000 veterans, which is almost one-fifth of the state's veteran population. As a city, we take care of our heroes.
As a nation, we recognize that #veterans deserve a dignified place to live. One that provides long-term care, after they have served and sacrificed on behalf of our great nation.
The city of Houston worked with the Texas VLB to make this Texas State Veterans home a reality. About five years ago, the city tapped into $700,000 from the TIRZ’s affordable housing funds to acquire the 15 acres of land for this home.

Today, it provides affordable living and care for #TexasVeterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents. As a grateful city, we can never do enough to show our gratitude to all veterans.

The name of this home is a testament of those who served courageously. Anderson was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor on August 24, 1969, for his selfless devotion going above the call of duty by giving his life for his country.
